When Is the Best Time to Get Married in France?

1. The seasons at a glance

High season (May to September): the best climate, but the most sought-after venues book 12 to 18 months ahead and prices are at their peak.
Shoulder season (April and October): a good weather-and-price compromise, often with beautiful light.
Low season (November to March): softer prices, more available venues, ideal for an indoor wedding or a cozy winter atmosphere.

Nature in bloom, mild temperatures, gardens at their best. June is one of the most popular months: book early.

Near-guaranteed sun in the south, long evenings, but sometimes strong heat in Provence and on the French Riviera, and high demand everywhere.

September is often the ideal month: still-mild climate, golden light, grape harvest. October remains very pleasant in the south and southwest.

Less outdoor time, but exceptional venues available, negotiable rates and an intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a chateau or city wedding.

Provence and the French Riviera: May, June, September and early October. July and August are hot and in high demand. Lavender blooms from mid-June to mid-July.
Paris and the Ile-de-France: May to September for the outdoors, but the city marries year-round thanks to its exceptional indoor venues. Autumn there is superb.
Loire Valley: May to September, when the chateau gardens and grounds are at their best.
Bordeaux and the vineyards: May to October; September, the grape-harvest season, is especially sought after.

Book the venue first: the date often follows the availability of your dream venue, especially in high season.
Think of your guests: a summer or school-holiday wedding makes it easier for far-away loved ones to attend.
Consider the low season: for a tighter budget or an intimate wedding, autumn and winter offer more available venues and vendors.
